God Gathers

One of the most encouraging sights of this conference for me has been seeing the re-unified leadership of the Seoul Church of Christ. There was nothing inherently bad about the decision some of our super-metropolitan area churches made to reorganize as several regional churches in places like Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Once freed from the one-church-one-city constraint imposed on urban sprawls of a size unimaginable in New Testament times, this kind of reorganization in some places was inevitable.

What was different about Seoul was that there was a real "scattering" in the works. Three separate churches were forming, and the parting wasn't looking very mutual. It looked for anything like a full out church split was hardening into place.

The peacemaking work of the Korean church leadership, assisted by Bruce Williams and John Louis, has been well-documented elsewhere, and the hard work of full reconciliation continues even now. But, seeing these guys all together here as one church leadership is a powerful reminder that even after a firestorm, with patience and Godly leadership, even what is broken can be repaired.
